- A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a key component of future intelligent transportation systems that support safety, traffic management, and user infotainment applications. With vehicles communicating with one another via wireless links, the VANET architecture can realize cooperative collision avoidance, emergency warning notification, enhanced route guidance, and multiplayer gaming [1–3]. The enormous potential of VANETs for improving the travel safety and comfort level has attracted significant research efforts from both academia and industry in the past few years [4,5]. As a result of many recent advances, it is envisioned that the emerging VANET architecture will be widely deployed in the near future.
